Packaging tapes or pressure-sensitive tapes are purposed for general sealing, wrapping, enclosing and bundling to prepare items for handling. Peel strength tests play a pivotal role in the manufacturing industry, particularly when it comes to pressure-sensitive materials. These quality tests evaluate the adhesive force required to separate two bonded surfaces and provide manufacturers with valuable insights into the quality and durability of their products.

Understanding peel strength is crucial as it directly impacts the material's ability to withstand various environmental conditions and application requirements. Thus, we at Testronix have designed a high-quality lab testing instrument known as a peel strength tester.

This is one of the quality packaging materials that are used for holding the samples between two movable clamps. The peeling force applied is displayed on the digital display provided by the machine. In this blog, we are going to discuss brief information about Testronix peel strength tester and how you can easily use this quality testing equipment to test the peel strength on pressure-sensitive tapes.

Introduction to Peel Strength Testing

The peel strength is one of the crucial properties of the material that indicates the force required to a pressure-sensitive or adhesive tape from the substrate. The packaging test will be performed by attaching the sample to the substrate and pulling on the free end of the tape at a constant rate.

Manufacturers can easily conduct quality tests on the materials that include 180 degrees and 90 degrees peel adhesion tests that will test the sample accurately.

You can easily measure the adhesive strength of the materials with precision which will make it easy for the manufacturers to conduct quality tests on the materials.

Testronix being the leading peel strength tester manufacturer has designed this quality testing equipment at the best prices.

Now, let us discuss brief information about Testronix peel strength tester.

All about Testronix peel strength tester

The Peel Seal Adhesion Strength Tester is an innovative laboratory testing instrument which helps in measuring the adhesion Strength or peel ability of self-adhesive pressure-sensitive materials. Peel adhesion is defined as the force required for testing the strength of the adhesives.

The specimen is placed between two movable clamps. This applies a force on the sample and peels it off the surface. The force that is required to peel off the sample from the surface is recorded by the highly accurate load cell given with the equipment. The force applied is displayed on the digital display provided by the machine. This instrument hence can provide the most accurate data analysis so that the manufacturers could provide the best quality to their customers.

Thus, peel strength testing was made easy with a Testronix peel strength tester. This quality testing equipment will allow you to conduct different quality tests on the materials that include adhesive strength test, peel strength test, seal strength test, and bond strength test.

It has been made as per industry standards that include Standards – ASTM D429 – 14, ASTM D903. This will ensure accuracy in test results. Optional accessories are always available with the use of this testing equipment that includes a 90-degree fixture, speed drive for accurate results, and many others.

This quality testing equipment comes with dimensions of 600 x 500 x 1120 mm which makes it easy for the manufacturers to conduct quality tests on the materials.

How to conduct a peel strength test on the materials with a Testronix peel strength tester?

To conduct the peel strength test on the materials accurately, manufacturers can easily follow the steps mentioned below.

  • If you want to conduct a peel strength test on the materials, then you need to prepare the specimen first.

  • To operate this testing machine, you need to plug in the machine & place the lower side of the specimen in the lower fixed grips and tighten the grip firmly.

  • Now bring the upper movable grip upwards the lower so that the specimen can easily reach the grips.

  • Ensure that the upper limit switch ring is placed at a position that keeps a minimum distance of 25 mm.

  • Now place the upper end of the specimen between the upper grips and tighten the grip firmly. Make sure that the specimen is placed in the centre of the grips.

  • Now press RESET and TARE to set the value at the peak load indicator to zero.

  • After setting the zero on the load indicator, turn the rotary switch to the UP direction. This will move the upper grip in the upper direction.

  • On the movement of the upper grip in the up direction, there will be an increase in the values shown on the load indicator. Now turn the rotary switch to the off position after the specimen has been peeled off.

  • Once the machine stops, the display showing the load will return to zero and the green display will freeze. Press the Memory switch on the load indicator to show the peak value.

  • Note down the values displayed on the load indicator.

In this way, you can easily conduct a peel strength test, you can easily follow these steps and conduct the test accurately.
