How is bursting strength measured?

Testing the bursting strength of corrugated boxes is an important part of securing a successful shipment. Corrugated boxes provide protection for goods during transport, but only if they are of the appropriate thickness and design for the goods contained within them.

The bursting strength of the box can tell us how much pressure it can withstand before breaking or tearing. With this information, an appropriate shipping option can be chosen, reducing the risk of goods being damaged during transit due to a weak box. Thus, to overcome the challenge of poor bursting strength of boxes, we at Presto have designed a high-quality lab testing instrument known as a bursting strength tester.

This is one of the high-quality laboratory testing equipment that makes use of hydraulic pressure to rupture a material under increased bursting pressure. In this blog, we are going to provide you with information about how you can measure the bursting strength of corrugated cardboard and other related materials with the help of this quality testing equipment. We will also discuss about the use of bursting strength testers in the packaging industry. So, let us get started!

All about Testronix bursting strength tester digital

The Testronix bursting strength tester is a highly useful laboratory testing equipment for the corrugated box industry. This quality tester can be used to measure the strength of the corrugated boxes and boards, as well as determine their suitability for various applications.

This lab testing instrument is capable of measuring the accurate bursting strength of the materials and ensures that quality products will be delivered to the customers. It also has the ability to calculate the Mullen value, which is the most commonly used measure of the strength of the corrugated box material.

The instrument is also equipped with several safety features, such as over-pressure protection and automatic reset. This ensures that the box does not suffer any damage during the testing process. By using the Testronix bursting strength tester, the corrugated box industry can ensure that its products are strong and durable enough to withstand the rigors of their intended use.

There are several reasons you should test the bursting strength of corrugated boxes.

It includes:

  • By testing the bursting strength, one can easily ensure that the boxes can easily withstand the rigors of shipping and transportation.

  • Bursting strength will also determine the overall strength of the box and ensure that it should be durable enough to deliver the products accurately.

  • Box resistance against bursting also indicates the quality of the material used to design the box. A good quality box will not get burst and ensure the proper delivery of contents.

Measure the burst resistance of boxes with Testronix bursting strength tester

The Testronix bursting strength tester has been designed with high-quality features that include memory to hold up to 9 test readings, highly accurate test results under multidirectional force, strong gripping clamps, and can be started with push button operation.

With these high-end features, one can test the bursting strength of the materials and deliver quality products to the customers.

Below we have listed the steps to conduct a bursting strength test on the corrugated box with the help of this quality testing equipment.

  • Start the machine and set the pressure to Zero by clicking the PRESET button.

  • For accurate test results, it is essential to prepare the test specimen according to the standards.

  • Prepare a Specimen of Cardboard, corrugated fiber sheet, or any other material you want to test with the minimum dimensions of 100mm x 100 mm.

  • Take a Test specimen of Minimum Dimensions 100 mm X 100 mm and place it on the machine by moving the upper grips by rotating a wheel anti-clockwise direction.

  • Tighten the operating wheel to make sure that the test specimen is firmly held and there will be no slippage.

  • Once all settings will be done, you can easily commence the test.

In this way, you can measure the bursting strength of the materials. Besides this, you can calculate the bursting factor of the material with the help of this formula:

Bursting Factor Bursting Strength X 1000

                                            GSM

GSM (grams per square meter) {Weight of specimen in grams (100 X 100 mm.)} X 100

Bursting Index =  Burst Factor-Bursting StrengthGrammage

Note: Bursting Factor has no Units.
