Colors of plastics are measured before extruding or molding the pellets into the final product. These are usually uneven in size and translucent in nature. Hence, exclusive accessories and presentation techniques are required to provide accurate and repeatable color measurement results. The quality of the single pellets is measured to obtain an overall average of the color for the complete batch.

Textronix’s Color Testers are used to measure the exact reflectance range of plastic pellets. The measurement methods provided by Testronix are best enough to ascertain the color quality of the products. These testing devices are provided with unique accessories and presentation techniques to provide repeatable results. The plastic pellets Color measurement Instrument have many non-uniform characteristics that require different testing methods and techniques for best measurement of colors.   Pellets are generally irregular in size and shape. For example, pellets are translucent in nature and not opaque that requires ambient light to see or examine even the sensitive and small differences in the configuration or actual appearance of the instrument. To test the quality of opaque plastic pellets, UV content of light source is required to verify the color quality of the product. On the other hand, to measure different characteristics, a different source of lights are utilized for measurement of colors precisely.

Recommended Color Scale for Measuring Plastic Pallets

CIE L*a*b* is the best descriptor that works on different color space indices namely WI E313, YI E313 that indicates the whiteness or yellowness, Brightness of the sample respectively by using the most appropriate source of live i.e. D65 or UV lights.  The best source of light that helps to measure the actual color of the products for perfect results.
