Color matching is an essential step in product design and manufacturing. With the use of a color-matching cabinet, manufacturers are able to accurately match the colors of their products with the ambient lighting conditions in which they will be used.

A color-matching cabinet replicates various lighting conditions and includes different light sources that enable product engineers to better understand the complete color range of their products.

This helps them to create products with consistent colors while avoiding Metamerism, so the finished product looks the same no matter what the lighting conditions may be. Thus, we at Testronix have designed high-quality lab testing instruments known as color matching cabinets. This is one of the high-quality testing equipment that has been embedded with different light sources that makes it easy for the manufacturers to conduct a color-matching test on the products.

In this blog, we are going to discuss brief information about the Testronix color-matching cabinets and how this quality testing equipment is used to avoid the problem of Metamerism present in the products. So, let us get started!

Importance of testing the color quality of the product

Testing the color quality of a material is an important step in ensuring that products look these materials will look best and function properly. When it comes to materials such as fabrics, dyes, and other textiles, color can be an essential factor for quality control. That’s why it’s important to know how to properly test the color quality of the material before production begins.

Whether you are working in the paper & packaging industry, or in the textile industry, you can easily test the quality of colors to ensure that quality materials will be delivered to the customers.

It is important to test the quality of the material for testing the color quality because colors can fade over time, and it is important to ensure that the materials you are using will maintain their color quality over time.

Using quality lab testing instruments is essential to ensure that quality materials will be delivered to the customers. Thus, we at Testronix have designed high-quality lab testing instruments known as a color matching cabinet that can accurately test the color of the product and ensure that quality materials will be delivered to the customers. The need for color-matching cabinets is vast in different industries to measure the consistency of colors present in the product.

Now, let us discuss brief information about the Testronix color matching cabinet.

Testronix color matching cabinet: Perfect for determining consistent colors in products

Measuring the color variance of objects is a vital part of maintaining product quality and profitability in any industry. Using a Testronix color matching cabinet to measure color variance enables companies to identify areas of potential variability, allowing them to adjust parameters or switch suppliers as needed, resulting in increased profitability and product quality. This quality testing instrument can provide key insights into the production process, helping ensure that each product line is consistently up to the highest standard.

Thus, with the Testronix color matching cabinet, one can easily test the product under standardized and controlled lighting conditions.

It comes with a wide viewing area and provides high-quality light sources. Besides this, it has been designed as per industrial standards including ISO 3664, BS 950, ASTM D 1729, and DIN 6173. This will ensure accuracy in testing results. You can easily take advantage of using this quality testing equipment, to test the consistency of product colors.

Now, let us discuss the brief information, about the working of this quality testing equipment.

Working of Testronix color matching cabinet

Testing the quality of the material is an important step in checking and ensuring color quality. It helps to identify any potential issues with the material, allowing you to take corrective action before it becomes a problem down the line. Not only can this save time and money, but it also will ensure that your product meets or exceeds expectations when it comes to color accuracy.

To conduct the color matching test with the help of Testronix color matching box, one can follow the steps mentioned below.

  • For accurate color-matching testing, it is essential that the specimen is placed correctly beneath the relevant light source, so that the color can be properly measured and compared to established standards.

  • To ensure the most accurate color-matching testing results, the specimen should be viewed at a distance of 450 to 600mm (18” to 24”) from the light source.

  • For the most accurate viewing of a glossy surface, it is important to avoid seeing the light source when it is secularly reflected by the surface. To achieve this, the specimen should be illuminated along the normal to the surface and viewed at 45° to the normal, or illuminated at 45° for the best results.

  • The INCA Light consists of four incandescent bulbs and provides a filament lighting source for the assessment of the two samples. It is essential to use this light to accurately detect Metamerism and determine if the two samples still match. If the colors are satisfactory, then the testing process can continue with the next light source.

  • The U.V. Light switch should now be switched ON to enable testing under ultraviolet light, as it is increasingly common for manufacturers to use fluorescent dyes and brighteners in the product. It is essential to test both samples and ascertain if they react in an equal manner when exposed to ultraviolet radiation.

  • It is often found, particularly in the case of white samples, that the U.V.B. Light clearly reveals the presence of fluorescent dyes and bleaches when used in conjunction with the other lighting sources.

  • A final test under TL-84 Triphosphor Fluorescent lamp should be conducted to assess if the colors are acceptable under modern lighting conditions, as this is likely to be the lighting source that customers encounter when using the product at the 'Point of Sale'.

  • If the matching of both samples remains consistent under all the tested light sources, it can be assumed that the dyeing, printing, and coloring of the sample have been done in compliance with the required standards.
