Ensuring the durability and strength of plastic films is an important part of quality control. This will help manufacturers in assessing the potential weaknesses or vulnerabilities in the products when tearing force is applied to them. With Testronix tearing strength tester, manufacturers of paper and the packaging industry can easily test the tearing ability of materials and can calculate the tensile force required to tear the testing samples. In this blog, we will discuss brief information about tearing strength tester and how you can easily test the tearing strength of the samples accurately with the help of this quality testing equipment.

Test the tearing strength of flexible packaging films with a tearing strength tester

A tearing tester is a widely used lab testing instrument used to determine the tear resistance of various materials. It is commonly used in industries such as packaging, textiles, and paper manufacturing to assess the strength and durability of their products.

The tearing test involves applying a controlled force on a sample material until it tears apart. The amount of force required to cause the tear is measured and compared to industry standards or specific product requirements. This helps manufacturers ensure that their products can withstand the rigours of handling, transportation, and use without easily tearing.

You can easily read more on the importance of testing the tearing strength of plastic films. Testronix tearing strength tester has been designed with industry standards including ASTM D1424-09, and ASTM D1776 to ensure accuracy.

One of the primary reasons for conducting tearing tests is to assess the overall strength of a material. The results from these tests can help determine whether a product will be able to withstand everyday wear and tear or if it is vulnerable to potential damage during transportation or use.

Now, let us discuss brief information about the features of this quality testing instrument.

Top features of Tearing Strength Tester

Using a tearing tester is an important part of quality control in different industries including paper and packaging, textiles and plastic films. This quality testing equipment has been designed by the experts at Testronix with high-quality features that are listed below:

The instrument consists of a falling pendulum to cover various measuring ranges.

  • High-Quality rugged structure
  • Falling pendulum types instrument
  • Highly accurate test results under multiple pendulum weights
  • Standards: ASTM D1424 – 09(2013)1, ASTM D624 – 00(2012), ASTM D1776, ASTM D689.
  • Easy-to-operate testing instrument

Now, let us focus on its technical specifications.

Technical specifications:

  • Capacity of the Tearing: 1600 g (can be increased to 3200 g or 6400 g by adding augmenting weights
  • Tearing Distance: 43 +/0.15mm
  • Reading of Scale : 0 to 100% Range
  • Range of Weights: 1600, 3200, 6400 gms
  • Scale Reading: 0 to 100% of the range
  • Accuracy: ± 2% within the entire range.
  • Least count of scale: 1%

With these high-end features and technical specifications, manufacturers can easily operate this testing machine and ensure accuracy in test results. Now, let us discuss some easy-to-follow steps for operating this quality testing equipment.

Working of tearing tester

To test the tearing strength of the samples, you need to follow the steps mentioned below:

  • First of all, check the level of equipment with the help of spirit level & adjustable footrests – 03 Nos.
  • The next step involves setting the sector pendulum with respect to the hole for zero setting (approx. 25 mm) to the left and right sides from the edge of the Release Brake Pin.
  • Check the friction of the pointer assembly & set the pointer to zero mark at the scale by hand carefully.
  • Put the brake lever and see that the pointer should not be pushed less than 2.5 mm or more than 40 mm beyond the zero mark on the scale.
  • Check the levelling of the equipment with the help of Sprit Level. Raise the sector pendulum till it rests against the release block pin on the left-hand side. Open the moving jaw fully with the help of the moving jaw knob.
  • Add a Calibration Weight of 1600/3200/6400 grams onto the calibrator rod according to the chosen capacity of augmenting weight.
  • After that, check the size of the slit and commence the test.
