In order to sell glossy products, it is important to check the glossiness of products. As gloss is an aspect of visual perception of objects which is equally important as color when looking into the psychological impact of products on a consumer. The gloss surface is influenced by many factors such as smoothness at the time of polishing, the amount and type of coating applied or the quality of base material.

Designing of products is done to have greater appeal. For instance, glossy magazine covers, high reflective car body panels or satin black designer furniture. When products look different, customers presume it to be of poor quality. Using an appropriate devices such as a gloss meter and good quality control method, the problem can be overcome.

The gloss levels should be consistent on each product across various batches of products. Gloss measures quality surface such as a drop in the gloss of a coated surface that indicates problems with its cure-leading to various other failures like poor adhesion or lack of protection for the coated surface. Manufacturing industries monitor gloss of their products because of all these reasons.

Gloss Meter measures the gloss reflection on the surface of the material. It directs the light at a specific angle to test the surface and measured the amount of reflection at the same time. The model of the machine and the type of surface identifies the angle of the device.

The angle of illumination and material influence the intensity. In the non-metals like plastics and coatings, the reflected light elevates with an increase in illumination angle. The metals have high reflection and less dependent on angles.  The amount of light that is reflected from a black glass standard with a set refractive index is the gloss measurement which does not include the incident light. The value is equal to 100 gloss units. If the materials have a higher refractive index, the measurement value could be more than 100 gloss units such as films. In transparent materials, the measurement value is increased due to multiple reflections. Metals have high reflection abilities, so up to 2000 GU can be attained.

Testronix has an appropriate testing device i.e. Gloss Meter–Digital to test products such as metals, paints, ceramics etc. It is portable and handy that can be easily used by a handy battery. The gloss materials are measured from various geometrical angles such as 20°, 60° and 85°.

Gloss Meter Supplier uses it to measure the gloss of paints, opaque glasses, powders, clothes, pigments etc. It adheres to ASTM D2457, ASTM D523, ISO2813, GB/T 9754.
